A satisfying whole wheat sweet
Yield: Makes one loaf
3 | cups | Elam's Stone Ground 100% Whole Wheat Flour | |

4 | teaspoons | baking powder | |

1 | teaspoon | salt | |
|
|||
1/2 | cup | soft shortening | |
|
|||
1 | cup | sugar | |
|
|||
3 | eggs | ||
|
|||
2 | teaspoons | vanilla | |
|
|||
1 1/4 | cups | milk | |
|
|||
1 | cup | finely chopped walnuts or pecans | |
|
Combine whole wheat flour, baking powder and salt in bowl; mix well and reserve.
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and milk; mix until smooth. Add dry ingredients, 1/4 a cup at a time, blending well after each addition. Fold in chopped nuts.
Spoon into greased loaf pan (9 x 5 x 3- inch). Bake in moderate oven (350 F.) until done, 60-70 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes; loosen edges and remove bread from pan. Finish cooling on wire rack.
