In a large saute pan, or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the onion and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until they begin to soften. Add the green beans and soy sauce to the onions and garlic, cook for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Be careful to not overcook the green beans; they should still have a slight crisp. Add the freshly ground black pepper before serving.
